Workshops

Workshops are the best way to learn photography without going through those costly learning curves. I spent years doing the wrong things without any help except from old magazines, books, travel guides, some friends and recently, websites. No one was there to coach me or guide me through those confusing times. So, I ended up spending more time, more money and more energy learning what I know now. I did not regret it. But, I know it would have been better!

  • Are you guilty of buying cameras and just keep them in your closet for several months until the next family occasion?
  • You are eager to take photos of your favorite travel spot but failed to capture the shot like the one you saw in the guide book?
  • You feel like your hobby is not going anywhere?
  • You don’t know how to motivate yourself to come up with shots that you would be proud of?
  • You have external flashes but you are intimidated or don’t know how to use them like the pros do?
  • You have that lingering photography challenge that you need help with?
  • You feel that you need to learn more about photo editing and take your craft to the next level?
  • Or you just want some coaching from another photographer to add more variations or techniques in your arsenal!

Does any of the above relate to you?

If so, then shoot me an email or message here. Let’s discuss how I could be of help to you. And to give you an idea of what to expect, here are some testimonies from photographers who have attended my workshops previously.

" It was simply Wow!!  That is only I can say about Jose’s workshop. It was my very first time to shoot a professional model, so I was a little nervous. But once the shooting was started, now I felt okay.  Jose kept encouraging to shoot and talk to model etc.  At end of the day, I think I’ve taken well over 600 photos!!!  Some of the photos were came up really great.  I thought “Did I take that?” Anyway, with masterful makeup artist (Eddie) Jose hired and a lovely model (Raissa).  I couldn’t ask for more. I thoroughly enjoyed his workshop and I intended to attend another one next month!!!  It is recommended for any level of photographer, Jose will make sure that he will improve your skill."

"I attended a recent “studio lighting” portrait workshop with Jose in Bangkok. We started the day with coffee and a conversation, I was immediately relaxed as Jose was interested in what my expectations were and what style of photography I was pursuing. I found the instructions easy to understand and very much hands on as I was quite intimidated by flash photography and shooting in manual mode. I walked away many hours later with the complete understanding of the theory of photography, lighting, and composition. And the post editing tutorial gave me such a sense of confidence that I knew I was a much better photographer from that day forward. The workshop exceeded my expectations as I learned more in the one day workshop than I had in my two years of photography. The workshops are highly recommended if you plan to become a professional photographer as i have."

— Rodney Thomas (Arizona, USA)

"I was a little nervous at the start of the workshop, since it was my first ever formal education in photography. However, my doubts and nervousness were soon put to rest. Jose instilled confidence and shared his knowledge unselfishly. I came away from the workshop feeling better and braver as a photographer. Highly recommended"

— Zrs Gamboa (Bangkok)

"Meeting Jose definetely changed the way I look at photography now.
Maybe I haven’t learned the secret techniques or anything like that but got quite a few very important tips which I wouldn’t find in any book.
And if someone wants to learn more about the techniques, well just buy a manual… It doesn’t mean that Jose won’t teach you about it…
With Jose you learn art! He will teach you thinking and looking at your photos in a new different way.
And one more thing. If you want to learn a bit about Adobe Photoshop, he’s a master in it! Just slow him down a little when he goes into details;)."

— Lukasz Saczek (Poland/Nepal)

"I and my husband Michael (a.k.a. JIGS), started taking photos as a mere hobby and loving it. But amateurs that we are, we’re kind of lost sometimes. At least, we know though that having a camera and gadgets and or mind filled with creative energy is not a guarantee at all for both us to be called Photographers. Then we decided to do a PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP with Jose  Tan, a classmate and friend way back in my nursing school, whose passion in photography amazed us. Things have changed after that, and we kept on saying that it was indeed one great experience and the best decision we have made! It was overwhelming at first, but Jose was a wonderful and effective mentor. You can see his joy, perseverance and faith in what he does. His friendliness and willingness in sharing his expertise and vision is respectable and selfless. He makes sure you are at ease having him around and that you’re comfortable sharing your own views/perspective. He has his artistic ways around his models for a successful photoshoot. But most importantly, he always points it out that planning is key – all the more, that your readiness for the event and careful composition are very important. These in short, had made this experience worth all the effort. It was fun-filled and yet informative. We have learned a lot, and we are more confident to explore the field of Photography day by day, and by that, we are so grateful to you, Jose Tan. We are hopeful that there will be another WORKSHOP…SOON! "
